President of the General Assembly strongly condemns killing of UN peacekeepers in Cote d’Ivoire
NEW YORK, June 11, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Statement Attributable To The Spokesperson For The President of the General Assembly
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, strongly condemns today’s brutal attack on United Nations peacekeepers in south-western Cote d’Ivoire, which left seven peacekeepers dead.
The President extends his deepest sympathies to the families, friends and colleagues of the victims, who all hail from Niger. His condolences also go to the Government and people of Niger, .
Those responsible for this criminal act must be brought to justice and made to face the full weight of the law.
President Al-Nasser stresses that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers and other UN personnel in Cote d’Ivoire must be respected and guaranteed in accordance with international law and under all circumstances.
The President of the General Assembly reaffirms his full support for the peacekeeping mission in Cote d’Ivoire.
