Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, the Flag Bearer of Progressive people’s Party (PPP) addressing the 1st National Convention in Accra behind him are the Executives of Party.Accra, Feb. 26, GNA – The Aspiring Flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Ndoum said the party would amend portions of the country’s Constitution to enable the election of District, Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives to promote local accountability and rapid development.

He said PPP government would also abolish the constitutional provision that allow Ministers of State to also serve as Members of Parliament. “This the PPP believes will move and make available for governance a large pool of qualified, experience Ghanaian talents whose expertise is currently unused and therefore lost to Ghana, and this will be done in one term of office.”

“Concurrent with this objective will be a solid determination to give Parliament the facilities and resources needed to pass laws and scrutinize proposal submitted by the Executive efficiently.”

Dr Ndoum was speaking at the Party’s first national convention held in Accra on Saturday.

He said his party would ensure that every Ghanaian child received quality education from kindergarten to Senior High School (SHS).

“The PPP will ensure free and compulsory education in public schools and deploy ‘education police’ to enforce the compulsory aspect of the policy”.

“An integral part of this objective will significantly increase vocational training for all school leaver to gain employable skills, including comprehensive sports programmes to instill discipline and promote good health.”

Dr Ndoum said the energy sector was critical to industrialization and rapid development and therefore the PPP would implement measures to meet domestic need as well as make Ghana a net exporter of power.

He added that the party would promote domestication and accelerate job creation nationally and also built an inter-region highway throughout the country to open up investment and development.

Dr Ndoum said unlike other political parties, the PPP was not selling an ideology because it believes Ghanaians want food to eat, homes to live, good healthcare, safe roads and best education for their children.

Aspiring parliamentary candidates of the party for the 2012 elections were introduced.

Dr Ndoum noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) might be big establishments, but they had failed in providing effective leadership.

“The PPP wish to asked all voters to make a change by considering the experience and personal attributes we are offering and vote for the party to make the difference that they desire in their lives,” he said.

Dr Ndoum said all young men and women were crying out for one thing – jobs, but they should not fear because when the PPP comes to power unemployment would be a thing of the past.

He said in Benin, candidate Yayi Boni came from nowhere to defeat the candidates put up by a so-called major political parties to become President and believes that the PPP would make similar move to defeat the NPP and NDC.
