Polytanks Ghana Limited, producers of plastic water storage tanks, has presented two 4,500-litre tanks to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to help fight cholera in the metropolis.

Polytanks Ghana LimitedThe tanks, costing GH?3,000.00, would be distributed to the hardest hit cholera communities since the outbreak of the disease in the metropolis some few months ago.

Presenting the tanks Mr Jonathan Osei-Bonsu, the Administrative Manager of the Mohinani Group, the parent company of Polytanks, said the donation was in response to an appeal made to the Group by the TMA to help contain the disease.

Mr. Osei-Bonsu said it was also in fulfillment of the company?s corporate social responsibility of ?ensuring that all Ghanaians have constant access to clean, safe drinking water?.

He said apart from insanitary conditions, the lack of access to drinkable water by some residents has been identified as a major contributor to the cholera endemic.

?We are providing these tanks not only to fight cholera but also to help beneficiaries to have sustainable access to safe drinking water as our contribution to help Ghana achieve the Goal 7 of the Millennium Development Goals next year,? he added.

Mr Osei-Bonsu urged the beneficiary communities to keep the water tanks and the surroundings where they would be mounted clean to prevent any water contamination.

Receiving the water tanks, Madam Matilda Mahama, Head of Community Development and Social Welfare at the TMA, expressed her gratitude to Polytanks for its prompt response to the TMA?s appeal.

Madam Mahama said the tanks would help to control the spread of disease in the metropolis and called on other corporate entities to follow Polytanks?s example.

She said the tanks will be placed at vantage points in the metropolis.
