IG reiterates commitment to upgrading the Force

The Police University in Kaduna will commence academic activities in September 2012, the acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed in Abeokuta on Friday.

While addressing officers and men of the Ogun Police Command, Abubakar said the university had been approved by the Federal Executive Council.

“The President is very committed for the take-off of the university; the Senate building is ready and the University already has a deputy Vice-Chancellor coordinating its affairs,” Abubakar said, explaining that officers and men of the police force would benefit from his administration’s transformation agenda.

He gave assurance that issues of accommodation, welfare, training and other issues would be given priority by his administration.

Abubakar was in Abeokuta to receive 13 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) and 156 Patrol Vehicles donated to the police by the State Government.

He thanked the state governor, Ibiknule Amsoun for the donation.

Tasking the command to make good use of them, Abubakar said: “The task of effective policing is now up to you, as the government has helped the force by providing you with what you need to perform.

Ikemefuna Okoye, the state Police Commissioner, said Ogun had experienced a drastic reduction in the rate of crime in the past four months.

He attributed the reduction to the continuous raid of suspected hide-outs and flash points within and outside the state capital.

Okoye promised not to leave anything to chance in protecting the lives and property of the people of Ogun and Nigeria in general.
