A sixteen-year-old primary six pupil of Dobolo Gonnor Basic School in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region, Emmanuel Owusu, who allegedly attempted snatching a taxicab from adriver, was last week rescued by the Amasaman police when residents attempted lynching him to death.

According to the Ga West District Police Commander, Superintendent Isaac Kwadwo Asante, his outfit was informed on the 26th December, 2012 that a suspected car snatcher was being lynched by a mob at Abenhenase.

He said the swift response from his men prevented the angry mob from lynching Emmanuel to death albeit he had sustained several bruises on his body before the police arrived.

Narrating the incident to Today, the taxi driver, Christopher Anti, said Emmanuel on December 10, hired him from Abenhenase to Obeyeyi.

He said it was his ability to overpower Emmanuel after he had pulled a weapon at him whilst driving that compelled the teenager to jump out of the vehicle and run for his life.

Mr. Anti noted that he has since the incident then been combing the community for Emmanuel.

?I only saw him on 26th December at Abenhenase and I called for peoplewho helped me to arrest. Unfortunately, the crowd grew wild and started beating him (Emmanuel),? the taxi driver recounted.

The case is currently under investigation. The victim is however, receiving treatment at the hospital and he will be arraigned before court when he is discharged from the hospital.
