Abu Dhabi Police discussed ways to promote cooperation with the British University of Salford, regarding its rehabilitation programs for juveniles.

Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah Al Mahrami, Head of Human Rights Department, Chairman of the Juvenile Care Center?s Steering Committee, met the University of Salford?s work team, who were selected from several international institutions, to provide their knowledge and professional expertise to the center?s staff members and enable them to leverage the latest methods adopted in juvenile rehabilitation.

Marking the occasion, a ceremony was held at the Juveniles Care Center in Abu Dhabi. In his address to the attendees, Brigadier Al Mahrami said, ?It gives me great pleasure to announce this valuable cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Police and the University of Salford, which would help us to achieve further success in the field of juveniles care and rehabilitation. This valued cooperation will further add to the achievements already made by the center?s staff members, (administrators, psychologists, social workers and educators). However, we can always benefit from the additional professional expertise from our international peers; which is why we chose the prestigious University of Salford to help us achieve this goal.?

Brigadier Al Mahrami stressed that the center?s administration is adamant on attaining the golden rule in the field of juveniles care and rehabilitation. ?To attain this goal, the center will fully cooperate with the university?s team, who will provide their skills and expertise according to the vision and the plan of the center to achieve a global status in the social, psychological and family services fields,? he stated. By the end of his speech, Brigadier Al Mahrami thanked the University of Salford?s delegation, which he regarded as a strategic partner.

Colonel Dr. Abdullah Mohammad Bu Hindi, Director of the Juveniles Care Center, welcomed the university?s work team on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Juveniles Care Center. He stressed that choosing the university as a partner is testament to the unstinting efforts exerted by the university in this field, and the prestigious global status it has attained thanks to its extensive knowledge and expertise.

Colonel Bu Hindi said that the center?s administration is adamantly keen on providing full logistic support to the University of Salford?s work team, with a view to support their efforts in transferring the knowledge and expertise as necessary, and efficiently fulfill their task under the best of circumstances.

Rabab Al Ameri, Director of Social Education Home, welcomed the University of Salford?s work team, wishing them success in their task. She also expressed the Ministry of Social Affairs? delight about this productive cooperation, which will promote juveniles rehabilitation according to international standards.

She added, ?We hope that this step will yield valuable benefits to the targeted segment of juvenile delinquents, commensurate with the UAE?s policy to provide care to all sectors of society.?

For his part, Suleiman Ali Al Aidi, Arabic Teacher at the Juveniles Care Center delivered a speech on behalf of Waleed Hamoud Al Aberi, Director of the Educational Care Center; an affiliate of the Abu Dhabi Education Council. He indicated that the center provides juveniles with a comprehensive educational and behavioral care services. It also endeavors to integrate them back into society, so they could be good citizens for their country and families. He also pointed that the center aspires, through the cooperation with the University of Salford, to provide the latest global developments in the field of juvenile rehabilitation, in line with the vision of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, and its keenness to implement the best international educational and behavioral practices.

Professor Maggie Pearson, Deputy Director of the University of Salford, Dean of the College of Health & Social Care, expressed the work team?s delight to have the distinguished opportunity to work alongside Emirati competencies.

Prof. Pearson indicated that their primary task is to transfer the expertise and competencies to their Emirati counterparts, thanks to their highly qualified team of criminal research and social psychology experts. The university will also support the experts who will work with the Emirati work team in charge of the rehabilitation project, in order to achieve the desired results according to international standards.

In conclusion, Prof. Pearson extended her heartfelt thanks to the Juveniles Care Center?s administration for granting the University of Salford the privilege of providing their know-how and expertise to the center. ?The University of Salford?s team will fulfill their mission in the best possible way, commensurate with the university?s vision to empower and rehabilitate juveniles and integrate them back into a normal social life, and in line with the university?s wish to help others understand the importance of this valuable humanitarian task,? she noted.
On the other hand, one of the juveniles gave a speech on behalf of his fellow juveniles, by which he expressed his appreciation for the attention dedicated by the UAE in the field of juvenile care and rehabilitation. He also extended his thanks to the members of the University of Salford?s team for taking part in the efforts to provide care and rehabilitation for juveniles, as per the best international practices.

The ceremony was attended by Colonel Mohammed Saif Matar Al Zaabi, Head of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments Department at Abu Dhabi Police; Ray Hill, Director of the Salford University Project; and Dr. Moran, International Clinical Psychologist. It was also attended by the Director of the Social Education Home for Boys and Girls; Director of Educational Care Center, branch managers, and a number of officers and academics from the University of Salford.
