He, therefore, entreated motorists to put their vehicles in good conditions, to ensure their road worthiness.

He also advised them to avoid over-speeding, drunk-driving, and urged them to park and take some rest after driving for long hours.

ASP Zah who gave these pieces of advice to both motorists and passengers in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Takoradu, entreated passengers to be alert and prompt over-speeding drivers to reduce their speed, and indicated that motorists who refused to adhere to their calls should be reported at the nearest police barrier for their arrest and prosecution.

He reiterated that road safety was a shared and collective responsibility, and therefore charged all Ghanaians to get actively involved in the road safety campaign.

The Regional MTTD Commander expressed worry about unauthorized road blocks for funeral ceremonies, engagements and other public events, and advised persons who intended to block any road for any activity, to first secure permit from the Urban Roads Department and the city authorities so that alternative routes would be made available for other road users in order to avoid inconveniences to the public.

He disclosed that the Department had collaborated with the National Road Safety Commission and the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority, to organize a number of snap checks in Sekondi-Takoradi, Tarkwa, Sefwi-Wiawso, and other accident prone areas in the region.

They have also visited churches and mosques to educate people, especially private drivers, on road safety measures aimed at minimizing preventable crashes.

So far, 6O police personnel had been deployed by the Regional Police Command to beef up security and support night patrols, as well as increase police visibility during the Yuletide so as to minimize accidents and armed robbery.
