Turkana County CID Commander Moses Cheruiyot said they believe Evans Kipkosgei, alias Osman, is an Al-Shabaab operative in the northwest region.
“We suspect Kipkosgei, Alias Osman, who was arrested following a tip-off from the administration of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Lodwar is an Al-Shabaab operative. We are interrogating him,” Cheruiyot said in Lodwar.
The terror suspect was tracked and arrested by police after he allegedly inquired from a KMTC student about the number of Muslim students in the institution.
Osman said that inquiry was in respect to an upcoming Ramadhan Fund Raising, but the student raised an alarm over the question.
But the Cheruiyot said they have since established that Osman does not have Kenyan identification documents.
KMTC College Principal Rachel Lomechu reported the matter to police leading to the man’s arrest. The suspect, according to Cheruiyot, hails from Kaisagat village in Trans Nzoia County.
Cheruiyot said four police officers have been deployed, to guard the institution. The latest incident comes two weeks after another medical college was closed in Western Kenya over terror threats.
Apart from Nairobi, Mombasa and northern Kenya, no part of the East African nation has suffered a terrorist attack in the past, but the latest security fears have caused panic in the hitherto peaceful region. Enditem
