A 54-year-old man who allegedly paid assassins to eliminate his contender in a land dispute at Teshie Fertilizer, Accra, has been arrested by the police.

Opoku Yaw-Bowe was nabbed after the leader of the suspected killers, Eric Tetteh, had missed his target thereby shooting an innocent person.

The wounded victim (name withheld) is currently on admission at the 37 Military Hospital receiving treatment.

Five others, who allegedly took part in the shooting incident, are currently on the run and are being hunted by the police.

Facts

Information available to DAILY GUIDE indicated that suspect Yaw Bowe was litigating over a piece of land with one Claver Abletor, father of the victim who sustained gun shots wounds, for some years now.

The matter was sent to the Osu Magistrate Court in 2006 but ruling is yet to be given.

Not satisfied with the court?s delay in giving its verdict, Yaw Bowe, according to information, allegedly contacted Eric Tetteh through one Alhaji, to eliminate Abletor and his family to enable him recover his land.

Suspect Tetteh was allegedly offered an amount of GH?1,000, out of which GH?500 was said to have been paid in advance for the action to be executed.

Tetteh, also allegedly recruited five others to help him carry out the criminal mission.

On April 12, 2014, around 2:00 am, suspects reportedly stormed the house of Mr. Abletor and succeeded in shooting one of his sons who was said to have heard of an unusual noise and rushed out to find out what was amiss.

Findings

Chief Superintendent Paul S. Kontoma, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, who confirmed the matter to this paper, said around 3:00 am on April 12, 2014, a police patrol team spotted a taxi driver conveying a man with gunshot wounds to the hospital and stopped them.

After the taxi driver had told his story, the police proceeded to the house and with the help of residents, managed to apprehend Tetteh, who had attempted to escape.

According to Chief Superintendent Kontoma, the foreign pistol in the accused person?s possession, together with two cartridges ? out of which one had been used ? were retrieved from by the police.

Upon interrogation, Tetteh mentioned Yaw Bowe as the one who paid him to kill the family for a fee of GH?1,000.

Based on the information, suspect Yaw Bowe was apprehended on April 13, 2014 to help in police investigations.

While investigations were ongoing, Tetteh again mentioned one Alhaji as the one who introduced Yaw Bowe to him but police were yet to go into the matter to ascertain the truth.

The two have been provisionally charged with the offence of suspected murder and will be sent to court after investigations are complete.

Chief Superintendent Kontoma said efforts were being made to apprehend the five others who allegedly took part in the action.
