The Premier League Board is seeking an extension to the closing date of the Premier League which goes beyond FIFA?s deadline ahead of the 2014 World Cup, according to reports in the local media.

The PLB in a proposal to the Ghana FA?s Executive Committee want to end this season?s campaign on May 25 ? seven days beyond the approved FIFA deadline, according to Metro FM.

The world governing body has directed all leagues to end by May 18 to give the players enough rest ahead of June?s tournament in Brazil.

And despite initial confidence by the PLB to finish the campaign within time, the organizing body has now beaten a massive retreat to request an extension.

The PLB claim their fixtures have been affected by Medeama?s campaign in the CAF Confederations Cup which will leave several matches outstanding.

They are therefore asking for more time in order to meet their full fixture schedule before the league comes to a comprehensive end.

The PLB?s proposal is however unlikely to get approved by the Executive Committee as the GFA is determined to comply with FIFA?s directives to avoid sanctions.

Only a compelling case like that of UEFA for their Champions League final will be able to sway the world football governing body in favour of a date extension.

The Executive Committee will however study the proposal before coming up with a decision presumably the wend of the week.
