Players and Technical Crew of Heartland Calls Off Strike

Barely 24 hours after embarking on strike for non payment of sign-on fees by the management of the club, the players and technical crew of Heartland FC of Owerri have called of the strike and trained for the first time on Wednesday morning since this week.

The players, who vowed not to go back to training until they are paid said that they made a U-turn after general manager Fan Ndubouke told them he is in talks with the Imo State Deputy Governor. 

“We have decided to call off the strike after our GM told us he is in talks with the Deputy Governor. He said we should trust him on this which we are. We will allow him conclude with the Deputy Governor,” a player said.

“We are giving our GM benefit of the doubt. He said he is in talks with the Deputy Governor, we will allow him. But if there is nothing after this weekend?s game, we will go back to strike,” he threatened. 

Heartland host title-chasing El Kanemi in continuation of the Nigeria league on Saturday.
