Benjamin-UwajumoguAs preparations for the 2015 general elections gathers momentum, the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu , has called on politicians and youths in the State to always play by the constitutionally recognized rules and shun every act capable of truncating the wishes of the masses.

The Speaker who was responding to questions from Journalists in Owerri yesterday, made it clear that the present administration in the state was not ready to sacrifice the current peace and tranquility which pervades the state on the?altar of violence in any guise.

He advised Politicians carrying out their electioneering campaigns to embark on issue-based exercise, rather than employing dangerous gimmicks, such as blackmail, pernicious propaganda and campaign of calumny to out-do their perceived opponents, as well as other anti-people actions that is capable of hitting up the polity, maintaining that the peace and unity of the state should remain paramount on the mind of every true politician.

According to him, ?if you look at every nook and cranny of this country, you?ll find out that Imo remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. In this regards, we are calling on our Politicians who are currently seeking different elective positions to please play by the laid down rules and maintain the state of peace, because the peace of the state supersedes every person?s aspiration,? he said.

Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, also called on Imo politicians and youths against availing themselves the opportunity of being used as agents of violence and malicious propaganda to destabilize the state, maintaining that free, fair, credible and violent-free electoral process remained the only antidote for the peace, growth and development for the and sustenance of the recorded achievement made so far for the betterment??of the state, as no aspiration of any candidate could be compared to the blood of any Imo citizen or the destruction of the achievements so far made.

He urged every aspirant to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and see their opponents as brothers and sisters, pointing out that do-or-die politics should not be seen as the divisive mechanism employed by enemies of the state to the undermine the harmony existing in the state.

In his words. ?I want to warn our youths who would avail themselves as pawns in the hands of politicians to have a rethink and shun such act as we all know that the same politicians can never assign such violent roles to either their children or Wards to execute. To our Politicians, they should never allow Politics to divide them, because what unites us is bigger than what divides us ?, the Speaker submitted.
