Biometric Voter Registration

Phase-one of the biometric voter registration, which ends on Monday, has largely gone on well in the Kumasi Metropolis. Despite isolated nasty incidence at some registration centres in Suame, Tafo-Pankrono, Asokwa and Asawase Constituencies, turn out appeared to be encouraging.

At the Maakro SDA Church Centre in the Suame Constituency for example, a total of 2,011 had been registered and issued with voter identification (ID) cards as at the close of Sunday. Mr Steven Nyantakyi, the Registration Officer (RO), told the Ghana New Agency (GNA) that, they were confident more others would be covered on the last day.

Abusuakruwa Christ the Way Centre had registered 1,002 applicants and the RO, Ms Yaa Afrah, said she was hopeful the figure would shoot up by the end of the day.At Afful Nkwanta in the Subin Constituency, 1024 people had registered within the past nine days. Miss Winifred Arthur, the RO, said so far the exercise had been a success after the initial technical challenges.**
