19 October 2012, Brussels Belgium

An international platform will be provided to South-South business relations as African entrepreneurs welcome Indian investors during this year?s AgriBusiness Forum 2012 to ensure economic growth between the two continents.

The annual pan-African?AgriBusiness Forum?will be held this year in?Dakar, Senegal from 25-28 November 2012,officially hosted by the?Government of Senegal?and opened by?Senegal?s President Macky Sall.?Entitled ?Boosting Africa?s Agriculture through Partnership, Investment and Technology?, the forum is co-organised with the?UNDP (UN Development Program),?a co-organiser for the second year running, in addition to the?Pan African Agribusiness & Agroindustry Consortium (PanAAC)??and in partnership with?FAO,?Rabobank Foundation, the?Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA)?and?Amiran Kenya.?The forum will bring together 400 or more of the sector?s leading figures, experts, industrialists, financiers, donors, SMEs, small-holder farmers as well as multinationals and civil society.

With EMRC’s long tradition in Africa, the 3-day forum is the best opportunity for India?s entrepreneurs to establish business partnerships with African government leaders, senior bankers and heads of industries. ?There is business to be done in Africa. Both India and Africa can benefit from this growing demand in agro processing and agric technologies. The climate and soil are similar, both continents are striving to develop their agricultural sectors and both are ready to share best practices and business relations. Having organised missions to India from Africa, the connection between the continents is growing at tremendous pace. It?s a logical partnership between two entities who understand each other,? explains?EMRC?VP?and?Managing Director Idit Miller.

This approach was also approved at the?India-Africa Forum Summit Process?in2008, during which the leaders of India and Africa agreed on a?Framework for Cooperation?for a sustainable and wide-ranging partnership in development, identifying agriculture as the first area of cooperation.

There is a wealth of learning and exchange that can benefit Africa, which the Indian Government duly noted, announcing last year a $5bn budget for financial and technical support to African countries. The growing demand for business partnerships will be put into practice over the three days at the tailor-made?B2B sessions?and a spotlight will be given to the?Agricultural Exhibition??Along the Value Chain?, guaranteeing a conducive environment for business deals. A variety of African based agri-food businesses will be present to meet financiers, investors and counterparts.

The?EMRC-Rabobank Project Incubator Award 2012,?promoting innovative business projects in Africa, is open to all participants and a cash prize of?US$15,000?will be handed over to the winner at the Gala Evening on Tuesday 27 November.
