The report released in Ouagadougou on Tuesday further indicated that 30.95 percent of these professionals say there’s partial media freedom while the rest believe there’s no media freedom in the country.
“During the 2014 popular uprising that toppled former Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore, a number of journalists were attacked, either by security forces or by protesters, and their equipments confiscated or destroyed,” the report noted.
However, the report continued, so far no journalist in Burkina Faso has either been killed or imprisoned for exercising his profession.
Speakers during the World Press Freedom Day that was marked on Sunday urged the country’s new authorities to reopen investigations in the 1998 death of Norbert Zongo.
Zongo, an investigative journalist, was found burnt to ashes on Dec. 13, 1998, when he was investigating the suspected death of the driver to Francois Compaore, the younger brother to ex- president Blaise Compaore. Enditem
