President Goodluck Jonathan has extolled the values of his late mother in-law, Mrs Charity Oba, describing her as a rare personality.

The President recalled how she had supported them in their early years with the savings from her trade.
Jonathan was speaking when he received Vice President Namadi Sambo and members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on a condolence visit over the death of his mother in-law.

“Our mother that died is quite dear to us not just today that we are playing politics. The first lady stayed with her till she grew up. This lady never complained and even for me as an in-law I was free with her, she shares what she has. She used her savings from trade to support us. It is very difficult to have somebody with such rare attributes.

“That is why when we heard about the death we were very pained. So that is the trauma we have been passing through and we thank you for coming to commiserate with us,” he said.

The President added that the family craved for continuous prayers to be able to go through this period of great loss.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice President said, as part of the FEC family, they were particularly saddened by the death of the mother of the First Lady, and they shared in their grief.

“Your Excellency, we cave to condole you on the death of our mother and we may pray for her soul to rest in peace.

“We will continue to pray that God grant her eternal peace.

“We pray God to give you the fortitude to bear the loss.

“It is sad for all of us because we are part of the family and we share in your grief. We pray God to give her peace in eternity.”

The Chaplain of Aso Villa, Ven. Obioma Onwuzurumba led the prayers for the repose of late Mrs. Oba’s soul.

Meanwhile, the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has also paid glowing tribute to her late mother, Madam Charity Oba, describing her as a ?a mother in a million who was a devoted mother and a devout Christian.?

She said Mrs Oba who was her biological mother’s younger sister, had raised her from a tender age after the demise of her mother and made her the person she is today.

When visited by sympathizers who included the former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Anthony Anenih and some top Presidential aides, the First Lady, philosophically said ?God knows best.?

The residence of the first family which recently has become some sort of a pilgrimage home since the First Lady’s return to the country on Wednesday has received delegation led by governors from different states including Bayelsa State, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Kogi, Katsina and? Enugu States.

A delegation from Rivers State as well as heads of Government Agencies, wives of top government officials and Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Ambassador of Nigeria to Spain have all gone to condole with the First Lady.

Meanwhile, wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, has commiserated with the nation?s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, over the death of her mother, Mrs. Charity Iwari Obah.

Mrs. Amaechi in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday said that ?the death of Mrs. Obah is indeed a great loss to Rivers State in particular, especially the Obah?s family and the nation at large.?

The Rivers First lady stated that she was devastated by the news of Mrs. Obah?s death.

She prayed God to grant Mrs. Jonathan and the Obah?s family in Rivers State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
