wpid-wpid-Mahama-Ayariga.jpgTruth be told, Ghana’s Ministry of Information and Media Relations smells.

Anyone who visits the premises of the Ministry of Information and Media Relations and walks along the terrace of the down floor cannot escape this horrible smell emanating from the washroom. So strong is the smell that even foreign visitors are mostly found covering their nose anytime they enter the place.

Though it is not too clear where the stench is emanating from it is suspected to be out of a leaked since in the washroom. ?What is worrying is that this ‘dangerous’ smell has persisted for a long time but no one in the ministry seems to be taking any action to address the situation.
On almost daily basis, Ghanaians including Ministers of state, officials of the various Ministries, Municipalities, Departments and Agencies (MMDAs), Journalists and indeed the general public thronged the ministry to attend events or inquire information. This makes the Ministry one of the faces of the country, and it is unfortunate that visitors has to regularly under go such ordeal. ?And it is worse if one decides to use the washrooms, the place is so un-kept that it takes only ‘serious pressure’ for one to be able to use the place.

As an alternative, visitors had to endure the unbearable pain of responding to nature`s call by climbing the staircase to the second floor.

It is very common to see staff and visited covering their noses with handkerchiefs and bear hands anytime they walk along the corridors of the ministry leading to the library just to avoid the disgusting odor.

Without an outer of doubt, this unfortunate situation can be said to exist in most Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the country.

The unsanitary environment at the Nations Information Ministry must be addressed as a matter of urgency to forestall further embarrassments to patrons and the country and the country as a whole.

The maintenance culture that has eluded us as a people is largely responsible for the current unacceptable situation at the Information and Media Relations Ministry and it is time to wake up from our slumber and make things happen, for, as they say “cleanliness is next to Godliness”.

The ministry of Information and Media Relations must lead by example.
