The Gomoa Aboso District Pastor of the African Faith Tabernacle Church, Isaac Donkor (Aka Agya Fire) has asked the New Free Press newspaper to render an unqualified apology to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for what he said is a calculated attempt by the paper to drag the name of the Asantehene into the mud.

The paper in a recent publication reported in its edition that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu played a major role in the Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 Presidential results brought before it by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence the judges to rule in favour of the president, John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Newspaper?s report, the step taken by the Asantehene was a thank you gesture to the president for appointing his crony, Kojo Bonsu as the Mayor of Kumasi.

But Manhyia, seat of the Otumfuo and the Asante Kingdom has denied the story in no uncertain terms after it has attracted mixed reactions from the public, majority of whom called for stiffer punishments against the editor of the paper.

Reacting to the publication, Pastor Isaac Donkoh noted that if for nothing at all, the Asantehene is a revered King who commands high office both in Ghana and outside the country as any other King anywhere in the world.

He therefore described the publication as unprofessional and without basis, calculated to drag the name of the Asantehene into the dirty politics practiced in the country.

He therefore called on the National Media Commission (NMC), to as a matter of urgency institute measures to address the matter and punish the paper and its editor to serve as deterrent to other journalist who practice arm-chair journalism.

He also called on the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) not to employ unprofessional journalist as editors who will only come and destroy the good name earned by their papers.
