The Ministry of Health (MoH) has adjudged the Osuwem Community Based Health Planning System (CHPS) in the Shai-Osudiku District as the second best in the Greater Accra Region for the year 2013.

Presenting the award, the Head of Research at the Ministry of Health, Dr Mrs Ma garet Gyapong congratulated the Staff of the Osuwem CHPS Compound for their dedication to duty in the delivery of healthcare to the people.

Dr Magaret Gyapong on behalf of the ministry presented a framed citation, a plaque and an amount of GHC 1,000.00 to the Osuwem CHPS Clinic? as its prize for emerging the second best in the region.

The Shai-Osudoku District Director of Health Services, Dr Efua Asante disclosded that the Osuwem CHPS Compound has increased birth deliveries in the community from 70 in 2012 to 166 deliveries by the close of 2013.

she praised the effective collaboration between the Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), the Community Health Committee and the clinical staff of Osuwem CHPS compound.

Dr efua urged residents in the area to enbrace the practice of family planning to ensure good maternal health care in the district.

The District Chief Executive for Shai-Osudoku, Hon Anyemi O. Lartey acknowleged the importane of CHPS in the health delivery system especially in rural communities of of the country and pleged the district`s determination to increase functional CHPS centres all over the disrict to realize the Millenium Development Goals 4 and 5 of improving maternal healthcare and reduce child mortality.

he commended President Mahama for recognizing the value of CHPS by dedicating 10% salary cut of the executive towards the construction of CHPS across the country.

Mr Lartey commended the staff of Osuwem CHPS compound for exhibiting exceptional qualities in the perfomance of their to lift the image of the Shai-Osudoku District.

He presented GHC 1000,00 to the Staff of Osuwem for making the district proud.

Madam Gladys Tetteh, Midwife in-charge of the Osuwem CHPS compound expressed profound gratitude to the Ministry of Health and the District assembly for the recognition.

She challenged health workers in the country to work deligently and have love for their patients.?According to her, there is greater reward in service.
