Ondo State to host international mountain mare festival

Professional mountain climbers from Europe and South Africa are expected to start ariving
in Ondo State from Friday this week, for the special edition of the annual mountain climbing competition, popularly known as Mare festival.

The Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, said in a statement on Wednesday that the foreign climbers would be joining their local counterparts who had been preparing for the competition.

Akinmade, who is also the Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the event, noted that
the entire programme would be low-keyed adding that the late Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Barrister Deji Falae woild also be celebrated in the course of the festival..
He said that amateur mountain climbers from the various local communities in the state would also participate in the event which would be observed by top officials of the Nigerian Tourism Development Agency.

He also said that the 2013 edition of the annual fiesta would feature various local and international professional artises who had packaged interesting songs to make the festival
interesting.

According to Akinmade, the 2013 edition of the festival had been designed to incorporate
people of the Idanre Community who would participate fully in the 2-day event.

He also said government was celebrating the Mare festival annually in order to showcase the Idanre hills to international tourists with the ultimate aim of attracting direct investments in the economy of the state.

He said the state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has vowed not to leave any stone unturned to make Idanre the best tourist centre in the country in order to attract foreign and local investors who will invest in hospitality industry, to the state.

He said, ?There is no other hills anywhere in the World that could be comparable to what
we have in Idanre. The lovely rock formations were special gift to Ondo State and Nigeria in general.?

He commended the people of Idanre for their endurance and hospitality during the previous editions of the festival and promised that the 2013 Edition would be more glamorous.
