The Senior Staff Association at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has expressed shock at the re-appointment of the dismissed acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital.

The newly sworn in Health Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah on Tuesday overturned an earlier order by his predecessor, Sherry Ayittey for Rev. Albert Okpoti Botchwey to step down.

Dr. Agyemang-Mensah in a letter addressed to the Board Chairman of the hospital, Eddie Annan asked the board to suspend the implementation of Ms Ayittey?s directive.

The president of the association, Charles Nii Kwadey Offei Palm on?Eyewitness News?said the news ?came as a surprise to me? after the association exposed huge financial malfeasance by Rev. Albert Okpoti Botchwey and the hospital?s board.

He disclosed that the new Health Minister called him on Monday to assure him that a new CEO will be appointed in the coming weeks.

?He [Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah] told me he wanted a truce between the senior staff association and the management?he claimed that because he is new, he didn?t want disturbances in Korle Bu as he assumes office so he pleaded with me to accept his truce?? he narrated.

Mr. Offei Palm added that he subsequently relayed the information from the Health Minister to the executives of the association who also accepted his truce.

He was however optimistic that despite the new development, ?all is not lost? giving the assurance that the association will stick to truce which has been offered them by Dr. Agyemang-Mensah.

?We are holding him to his word that within one week, government is going to appoint a new Chief Executive and then look into other matters of Korle Bu,? Offei Palm indicated.
