Okon-Eket Youths Pledge Support for PDP Candidates

Youths of Okon Clan in Eket Local Government Area have pledged their continuous loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party PDP and all it’s candidates in the forth coming general elections.The statement was made through a communique signed and made available to journalists after a general meeting on Tuesday, March 24th 2015 at OKON CIVIC Center, Okon-Eket.

The declaration of support was made after the agenda for the meeting of youths comprising of 18 villages in Okon Clan was exhausted, then Comrade Daniel Essien- President of Okon Youth Council, moved a motion for the adoption of all candidates under the umbrella of the PDP, and the motion was seconded by the convener- Comrade Unwana Ukpong.

In his speech, the host- Comrade Unwana Ukpong; party faithful, son of Rt. Hon. Moses Ukpong who served in Akwa Ibom state house of Assembly and council hopeful, admonished the youths, advising them to vote for PDP so that the transformation Nigerians are enjoying can continue, and be felt in Okon.
Also present at the meeting were Comrade Kingsley Akpan John- PDP youth leader, Miss Ekatte Ubon- Women Cordinator and Comrade Enobong Nsima-President Esop Mbong Mkparawa Okon, Comrade Junior Nsima and Comrade Victor Essien, among other youth leaders representing various groups and villages.

However, Comrade Peters Peters Jnr. who is the Youth President of Ikot Okudom opposed the adoption of all PDP candidates, stating that on personal grounds, owing to the fact that Okon clan has not felt the impact of the PDP administration, in his words, ‘Okon people have always been used, so I reserve the right to support any candidate of my choice, irrespective of political party, but I advise youths of my village to follow their conscience’.

In conclusion, the convener advised the youths to shun violence rising, especially those rising from political thuggery or rivalry during the elections, he urged them to come out in their numbers with their voters card to exercise their rights on election day.
