The Obasanjo-led AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan has resolved to meet President Salva Kiir, and other stakeholders in a fact finding mission  before the end of April.

The other stakeholders included Kiir?s former Vice President, Reik Machar, and other key actors.

“The commission has firmed up its first round of travel to South Sudan slated for before the end of April with a planned meeting with President Salva Kiir.

“The commission will engage with other actors in South Sudan, including former Vice President Riek Machar,?? it said in a statement on Thursday in Addis Ababa.

The commission said it would also hold talks with key leaders in the region, including Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, President Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan, President Yoweri  Museveni of Uganda and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya.

The commission resolved to hold series of meetings with the regional leaders and stakeholders during its second meeting in Addis Ababa chaired by former Nigeria’s President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Other members of the team included Prof. Mahmood Mamdani, Ms. Bineta Diop, Prof. Pacifique Manirakiza and Justice Sophia Akuffo, President of the African Court on Human and Peoples? Rights in attendance.

The statement said the meeting revised the commission’s work plan, agreeing on working methods and activities to be conducted as part of its inquiry into the crisis in South Sudan with visits to victims, refugees, detainees, IDPs and members of civil society groups.

T he statement said that the commissioners had held talks with former Director of Political Affairs of UN Mission in Juba, South Sudan and former Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian Defence Forces.

Others are Chief of Staff of the African Union High Level Implementation Panel on Sudan and South Sudan; a civil society expert working in South Sudan and former UN Force Commander in Abyei.
