Activities on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed on a negative note yesterday as against the positive outlook witnessed the previous day.
Specifically, the market capitalisation of equities depreciated by N11 billion to close at N6.876 trillion as against a record of N6.887 trillion Wednesday.
Further review of trading in the day showed that, at the close of trading session, the NSE All-Share Index equally dipped by 0.15 per cent to close at 21,542.24 as against 21,573.84.
The banking sub sector of the Financial Services Sector (FSS) led the market transaction volume with 74.6 million units valued at N512.9 million exchanged in 1,601 deals.
The volume recorded in the sector was driven by transactions in the shares of Stanbic IBTC, and ETI Plc.
The insurance sub sector, activated by the shares of Custodian Insurance and Continental Reinsurance followed with a volume of 28.2 million shares worth N27.3 million in 147 deals.
The number of gainers at the close of trading session was 18 as against the decliners that closed at 16. On the gainers? chart were Honeywell Flour Mills by five per cent to close at N2.10, followed by Evans Medicals with 4.92 per cent to close at 64 kobo while Ashaka Cement Plc added 4.81 per cent to close at N9.37.
