Keep Nkrumah’s spirit alive – Dr Nasser

All present-day Nkrumahists have been challenged to rise up to the task of propagating Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s monumental achievements.

This is estimated to be the best means by which Ghana’s first President’s legacy will triumph in modern day Ghana and the world over.

Dr. Nasser Gamel Adam, a leading Comrade of the Socialist forum made the call at the 46th Anniversary of the overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in Accra.

The event was under the auspices of the Socialist Forum where he said the truncation of Dr. Nkrumah’s vision had retrogressed the nation’s development.

He therefore advocated the need for the country’s intellectual discourse to be shifted towards Ghana’s redemption in line with the first President’s vision.

He recounted, “In Ghana the infrastructure of development under Nkrumah were quite impressive: the network of roads, factories, schools, hospitals, the harbours, the Akosombo dam and the 63 enterprises that were established”.

“Reference is also made here to the impressive progress that was made in the field of education where in just 10 years Ghana under Nkrumah’s leadership had achieved more than the colonial administration had achieved throughout the entire period it was here running into more than 100 years,” he added.

However, Dr. Yao Graham, Executive Director of the Third World Network attributed the nation’s under-development to the domination of foreign investors in the Ghanaian market.

“We have seen a growth of an economy where the best results have been achieved by foreign firms: the telecom firms are making a huge harvest, the mining firms are having a huge harvest.”

Dr. Graham stressed, “We are having a situation over the past 30 years where so-called free market reforms have been completely one sided because successive governments have paid a lot of attention to creating enabling conditions for those who want to make profit.”
