The initiative is expected to ease the work of the VIO in checking vehicle documents on the road
Dr. Wole Adetimehin, the President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), on Friday, said that the new Nigeria Insurance Industry Database (NIID) would eradicate fake vehicle insurance certificates.
Adetimehin, while speaking to journalists in Lagos, said the initiative introduced by the Nigeria Insurance Association (NIA) would make it easier for the association to verify the validity and authenticity of any vehicle insurance particulars.
?I think with this, the usage of fake vehicle insurance documents would be reduced to the barest minimum or completely wiped out,? he said.
Adetimehin said that such an idea would also restore the society?s confidence in the insurance industry.
According to him, in the event of any unforeseen circumstance during transit, the travellers? interest would be protected.
He added that NIA was currently collaborating with law enforcement agencies and Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO) to ensure the effectiveness of the initiative.
?It is a good initiative by the association; but being a new idea, it will take some time for its impact to be felt.”
