A Nigerian Journalist Segun Okwami has told XYZ News that a Nigerian Governor forewarned Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport Authorities about the safety of the Allied Air plane that crashed in Accra and killed 10 people on Saturday.< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, according to Segun Okwami, sent the warning days ahead of the flight of the Nigerian Cargo Plane’s disastrous transit here in Ghana.

The Allied Air cargo plane overshot its runway, crashed through the Airport fence wall onto the busy street near the Airport and rammed into a Benz Mini passenger Bus and mangled it beyond repairs.

Journalist Segun Okwami who spoke to Breakfast XYZ from Lagos where a separate plane crash killed over 150 people on Sunday said Governor Akpabio says his earlier warning to the Ghanaian Authorities about the Allied Air craft should have been taken seriously. He said

“one governor of the states here [in Nigeria], Chief Godswill Akpabio said he warned the MD of Ghana Air[port Company] about the safety of the craft because it almost had a crash in Uyo some weeks back.He warned them,” adding “it means that somehow, maybe authorities concerned have overlooked the issues of safety and of maintenance of aircraft that has to do with some of the airlines.”

But Deputy Transport Minister did not take kindly to the comments. Speaking on Breakfast XYZ, Madam Dzifa Attivor expressed surprise at the revelation, describing Segun’s comments as an unfortunate one. She said

“I thought we would have collaborated to find a solution to what actually happened. But for him to sort of put the blame on Ghana Civil Aviation Authority…”

She believes the Nigerian officials should take the first blame for allowing a faulty aircraft, if the allegations are true, to leave their shores, stressing,

“I am very much surprised because the point of departure is Nigeria. So they have the first responsibility to make sure that the aircraft is safe.”

Madam Attivor however said, government will wait for the report of the five-member investigative committee to determine the true cause of the accident before taking any decision on the way forward.
