The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, on Friday said the Nigerian Army would remain a veritable tool for national integration.
Ihejirika said this at the passing out parade of the 70 Regular Recruits Intake held at the Nigerian Army Depot, Zaria, Kaduna State.

“The contemporary security challenges in our dear country demand that the Armed Forces maintain a well trained and disciplined force to provide appropriate response.

“Our constitutional responsibility demands that we defend the nation from external aggression, maintain territorial integrity, and secure its borders from violation by land, sea or air.

“We are also expected to assist the civil authority to suppress insurrection,?? he said.
He said that in carrying out such duties, there was the need to remind the army, the Nigerian Army’s mission.

“For the recruits on parade, today marks the end of your training here in the depot and ushers you into the beginning of a career in the Nigerian Army.??

Ihejirika, therefore, directed the recruits to exhibit high sense of discipline, commitment, selflessness and courage to take the nation to greater heights.

He commended the Federal Government for its commitment to the cause of transforming the Nigerian Army.
