The Federal Government has approved the immediate establishment of Special Border Corps (SBC) for effective borders policing of the borders and reduce influx of terrorist elements into the country.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Mr. David Parradang, said this in Abuja, during the decorations of 34 newly promoted officers to the position of Controllers.
Parrandang said the special border officers would be empowered with special fatigues and appropriate technology.
He explained that the 34 senior officers were part of 6,193 officers promoted recently by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board via Ref. No.CDFIPB/PL/NIS/330.
He said: ?My expectation and charge to you are clear and urgent. You must ensure that our borders are well patrolled. Make them water tight. If any irregular immigrant is intercepted in land, you must answer for it.
?I expect that you register, monitor and control all immigrants in your various commands. We must account for each and non-Nigerian in our midst where he resides, what he does for a living.
“We must remove regularly with full respect to the ECOWAS protocols and the human right of those who resides in Nigeria illegally,? he added.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Fatimat  Bamidele, congratulated the officers and advised them on cooperation with the  leadership of the Service.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, in Abuja on Friday urged newly promoted Comptrollers of Immigration to ensure security at the country?s borders at all times.
Moro gave the charge at the decoration ceremony of 34 comptrollers, saying that the security of the borders was essential to the fight against terrorism in the country.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Fatima Bamidele, the minister stressed that the current security challenges in some parts of the country arose from the lapses in policing the borders.
He urged the officers to be guided by the fear of God in the discharge of their duties, saying: “Show fairness in your new positions and ensure that transparency and the fear of God are your watch word.??
