No fewer than one hundred and sixty persons have been operated for various eye diseases including cataracts, glycoma and therrigium, in the on-going free eye care treatment being carried out by a non- governmental Organization, (NGO), Asmau Foundation, at the Okene General Hospital in kogi state.

The President and founder of the organization,  Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar, who disclosed this to journalists today in Okene, noted that the death of his mother spurred him to re dedicate his life to service to  humanity.

“My late mother meant everything to me. She loved me so that she will stop at nothing to make me happy. Unfortunately when I was to give back part of what she gave to me, she died. I then decided that I will start an NGO to immortalize her name and that was the birth of Asmau Foundation” he said.

Abubakar also stated that this was the sixth edition of the free eye treatment at the Zonal Hospital Okene in Okene Local government Area of Kogi state. He said the foundation was primarily established to bring light to humanity “thus choosing free eye treatment was a fulfillment of the mandate” stressing that he would work hard to
remain consistent with the operation.

According to him Asmau foundation which commenced eyes treatment at central senatorial Zone of the state three years ago has so far treated over 5,000 persons adding that over 1500 patients have so far
been attended to in the on-going edition.
