NDC ‘violent conduct’ in Kyebi to portray Nana Addo as warmonger?

The New Patriotic Party (NPP)Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea has condemned what he says is an attempt by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to portray his presidential candidate as a warmonger.

He said the conduct of some members of the ruling party especially in Akyem Abuakwa in the round up to the December 7 polls exposes the NDC?s desperation to retain power.

Atta Akyea was reacting to claims that President John Mahama’s convoy was prevented from entering Kyebi, the hometown of the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo over the weekend.

According to media reports, a youth group said to be members of the NPP blocked the road as the President?s convoy approached the township resulting in clashes between them and NDC supporters.

But a statement signed by NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the President was not prevented from entering Kyebi even though some party supporters supposedly faced challenges in getting a venue for the programme.

However, Atta Akyea on Asempa FM?s Ekosii Sen programme Monday accused the NDC of orchestrating violence prior to the president?s visit in Kyebi and blamed it on Nana Addo?s infamous ?all-die-be-die? comment.

He alleged that some NDC thugs led by one Alhaji Salisu Mohammed attacked the NPP members resulting in some sustaining injuries.

The Abuakwa South MP noted that the party has made a formal complaint at the Kyebi police station to investigate the matter.

He said it is regrettable that people would misconstrue a harmless comment by the NPP presidential candidate to score cheap political points.

Atta Akyea observed that Nana Addo?s commitment to peace is irrevocable and will ensure the country’s peace and tranquility is jealously guarded.

He stated emphatically that though the NPP members stand for peace, they will not allow themselves to be intimidated or cheated by any political party in the December polls.

Atta Akyea stressed the NPP does not have the propensity to foment trouble in Akyem Abuakwa ahead of the elections, hence the NDC should quit the propaganda and work towards unity.
