NDC Bigwigs In War Of Words Over Ken Agyapong

The tenacity of NPP MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong to go to town over the Woyome scandal and get to the bottom of the whole saga, is knocking heads together in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

On Thursday, there was drama on the airwaves of an Accra-based commercial radio station when two leading members of the NDC, one a National Executive Committee (NEC) member and the other, a Member of Parliament, verbally clashed over the can worms opened by the NPP MP following allegations that leading members of the governing NDC have benefited significantly from Alfred Woyome’s judgment debt scandal.

The Assin North MP asked for more heads to roll following the arrest of businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome Alfred Woyome, a co-opted member of the Volta Regional Executive of the NDC and a former Vice Honorary Consul of Austria to Ghana.

Earlier in the day, the NPP firebrand had made a strong call for the arrest of some NDC bigwigs. Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, the CEO of Kencity Media called for the immediate resignation of or the arrest and trial of Chief of Staff, John Martey-Newman; Deputy Attorney-General, Ebo Barton-Odro and the Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor for various roles played in the controversial Alfred Woyome judgment debt saga.

He alleged the infamous judgment debt totaling GhC51 million awarded the NDC financier was orchestrated by a “whole syndicate” that goes beyond the persons cited in the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) interim report.

Responding to the damning accusation in an interview on the Citi Eye Witness News, Richard Quashigah, National Propaganda Secretary of the NDC said the allegations being bandied about by the NPP MP are “neither here nor there”, adding that “Ken is just making up stories without any merits”.

He wonders why the Assin-North MP has not come public with evidence that he is not a wee smoker or someone who deals in drugs; as well as providing evidence to show that his flagbearer Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo is not a womanizer or someone who also deals in drugs.

But in a sharp rebuttal, the NDC MP for the Lower Manya constituency, Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu (MTN), flaked his National Propaganda for launching a verbal attack on the NPP MP instead of sticking to the issues raised.

“Ghanaians are not children that we should throw dust into their eyes. He should stop throwing dust into our eyes… a serious allegation is being made against our party and so saying that Akufo Addo is a drug peddler is neither here nor there. I listened to Ken (Agyapong) and I expected that as the Propaganda Secretary he should address them whether they are true or not rather than saying Ken is a wee smoker…” the NDC MP affectionately referred to as MTN retorted.

However, Richard Quashigah shot back and directed his verbal assault against his own party member whom he described as “an opposition from within” and “an albatross” around the NDC’s “neck”.

“I am not surprised he is saying this. He has become an albatross on our neck; so I am not surprised…it is not surprising that he has become an opposition from within…Ken is a pack of lies, he is full of lies, he comes to the media with documents that has not been authenticated and you expect us to listen to him?” he quizzed.

Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also waded into the fray to debunk sections of the NPP MP’s allegations that an amount of US$ 30 million from the judgment debt paid to the embattled NDC guru was used to finance the ongoing construction of the NDC head office. According to Ken Agyapong, another $5million of that money was paid into the accounts of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation for reasons he could not state.

“There is no such thing as a castle account and no money has been paid into the account. Checks we have conducted also indicate that not one pesewa has been received from Mr. Woyome (which has been paid) into the GBC account….,” Okudzeto Ablakwa stressed.
