Nana Dr S. K. B. Asante, an experienced international arbitrator, has been appointed the honorary Chancellor of the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership (GSGL), Ghana?s premier adult Christian university college.
Nana Dr Asante, who is also the Paramount Chief of Asante Asokore, has served under the auspices of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), and others and organised and lectured at workshops in these areas.
He is a panelist of several international arbitration institutions and the Chairman of the Ghana Arbitration Centre. He is a managing partner of the law firm, S.K.B. Asante & Associates, based in Accra and has advised many government and other entities in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern and Central Europe on the structuring and negotiation of international transactions, foreign investment, technology transfer laws, and legal sector reforms.
He is a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Ghana.
From 1967-69, Nana Dr Asante served as Adjunct Professor of Law in International Business Transactions at Howard University Law School, Washington, D.C. He is a Fellow of World Academy of Arts & Sciences, Honorary Fellow of the Society for Advanced Legal Studies, and Life Member of Clare Hall Cambridge University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the International Law Institute, Washington, D.C.
He has extensive publications on numerous topics covering various areas including international business transactions, international law, transnational corporations, international commercial arbitration, property law, constitutional law, and law and development. He is a recipient of the Ghana Book Award for distinguished writers.
Speaking at a ceremony to confer fellowships on the participants of the African Leadership Fellows Programme, an initiative of the African Good Governance Initiative, a subsidiary of Graduate School of the GSGL, Prof. Omane Antwi, Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, stated that as part of efforts to position the school as a leading adult university on the African continent, GSGL continues to recruit high-calibre individuals to serve in various capacities.
He also announced that other members of the council include: Dr Emmanuel Akwettey, Executive Director of the Institute of Democratic Governance; Maj. Gen Adu Amanfo (retd), Ghana?s former Ambassador to Liberia; Miss Gloria Ofori-Boadu of the African Peer Review Commission; Lady Olivia Titi-Ofei, co-founder of GSGL, and Bishop Gideon Titi-Ofei, founder of GSGL.
Bishop Titi-Ofei stated that GSGL?s main mandate is to meet the human capital needs of Ghana by collaborating with world-class institutions to bring to Ghana, programmes taught in a Christ-centred scholarly environment that integrates faith and learning.
To this end, he said the school is affiliated to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology; Institute of Directors in the UK; and Institute of Commercial Management, also in the UK. He added that the institute had begun plans to host programmes from London School of Economics and Political Science, Energy Institute, UK and London School of Energy Studies.
