MTN Ghana Foundation has presented an incubator and ventilator to the Tarkwa Government Hospital to help save lives of pre-term babies and help reduce infant mortality.

Also, it is to support government in its public private partnership and to encourage other institutions to support various hospitals across the country, as well as help reduce infant mortality by 2015.

Mr. Abubakar Mohammed, Regional Senior Manager, South-West Business of MTN, at a brief ceremony explained that the company purchased 10 incubators and five ventilators at a cost of GH?125,000 to support health institutions across the country? that are in dire need of them and to curb the infant mortality rate.

?MTN took this venture in response to an article titled ?Babies Dying? in a newspaper, which raised the issue of lack of incubators and ventilators in most public hospital as the cause of deaths,? he said.??? ?

He expressed hope that the donation will help the hospital to take better care of pre-term babies who are born at the hospital.

Dr. Ebenezer Acquah, the Medical Superintendent of Tarkwa Government Hospital, said the incubator and ventilator are important to the health care delivery of the hospital.

?Most times, we refer such cases to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital — this will go a long way to save a lot of lives in our catchment area and beyond,? he said.

He expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana Foundation for the kind gesture, and promised the incubator and ventilator will be put to good use.
