Yes with the intermittent phone calls from parents, brothers and sisters, aunties, uncles, loved ones and friends every single day from Ghana gives ample evidence that Ghanaians in diaspora are also feeling the heat.

You will recall that on May Day celebration at Sunyani, the TUC Secretary General Brother Kofi Asamoah, observed that the economy was booming only that there has not been jobs in the system.

So under a booming economy, should respectful parents, aunties and loved ones be turned into pan handlers always begging their relatives struggling to make ends meet in minus 30 degrees Celsius countries for money?

Eight months ago, President John Evans Atta Mills, visitedCanadato be preciseOttawaand met with Ghanaian residents. At the town hall meeting, he praised Ghanaians living in the diaspora for supporting the growth of the economy via remittances.

No doubt that part of the money that government got to support the economy came from foreign remittances coming from Ghanaians in the diaspora who sent money to their relatives through the money gram and the western union money transfer.

However the question some of us asked after the meeting was where are the policies he splashed on the faces of ?Ghanaian voters that through their implementation life was going to be comfortable for each and every ordinary citizenry?

Whether it was a crafted propaganda or what, there was a huge cry of high cost of commodities in the system at the time of the 2008 general elections.

President Mills pounce on this like a mince meat and promised Ghanaians that through the NDC party manifesto was an adopted policy that when elected as a president will implement to ensure prices of foods and services are reduced to create comfort for all.

On every campaign platform, the president was heard quizzing the crowd, ?amo ara wotom woto kerosene egu wonkania mu a? Wonto mi nto po ngu won lantern mu enonte bobo na woso deda. Ame Atta Mills meba metew do?.

To wit, ?are you able to afford the price of a gallon of kerosene to feed your lanterns to provide lighting system for your houses at night? No you are not able to afford. Vote for me Atta Mills to become the next president and I will reduce the price of kerosene drastically for all to buy.

Three years seven months into his four years term office let us ask him where is the ?metew do? policy that he promised Ghanaians to cushion them of ?economic hardship that they were under during the previous government?

Mr. President, we heard you loud and clear when promising all that you will reduce prices of foods and other commodities as well as services which the recorder picked your voice too.

Kindly come out and explain to all whether the policy didn?t work or it was just political campaign propaganda. Ghanaian electorate needs to know especially where some of your followers are swearing to do all that they could to give you a second term in office.

IN THE NEXT EDITION, THE RECORDER WILL PLAY BACK ON WHAT PRESIDENT MILLS SAID CONCERNING HIGH SCHOOL FEES AND TRANSPORT FAIRS.

STAY TUNE.
