Amos Dunia in Abuja—Nigeria and the Republic of China have signed an agreement on a grant of N262 million worth of medical protection and treatment of Ebola Virus Disease. The grant is meant for the federal government on the identified gaps as presented by the Federal Ministry of Health during its last meeting with International Development partners in August this year.

Minister and deputy chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar signed for Nigeria while Ambassador Guq Xiaojie signed on behalf of the China.

In his remarks during the signing of the agreement, Dr. Abubakar said the grant on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) would fill critical gaps in the country?s development drive to contain the spread of the disease in Nigeria.

He said: ?The Nigerian government, like other African countries is putting everything in place in order to contain the spread of the disease
especially in West Africa countries of Liberia and Guinea.

?Nigeria also wishes to acknowledge the contribution of China to meet the basic needs of the people, particularly in the areas of education,
healthcare and shelter.?

The National Planning Minister said the Chinese government has been supportive of the country?s development drive with unrequited transfers in the form of grants and technical assistance, covering water and sanitation, health, education, defence and security, energy and power, small and medium scale enterprises development and agriculture sectors.

Abubakar further said the trade relation between the two countries had been very cordial, adding that Nigeria relies on China for manufacture of equipment and high technology machinery, while China source some of its primaryproducts, including crude petroleum from Nigeria.

He said China is currently restrategizing to take advantage of the recent opportunities in the country for enhancedprivate sector investment and increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Nigeria.
