MMT To Provide Free Ride For The Aged

The Metro Mass Transit (MMT) company says it would soon begin providing free transport to the aged accros the country as part of its social intervention services in addition to the free ride for pupils.According to the company,the beneficiaries would be Ghanaian citizens with ages of 60 years and above.This was said by the Deputy Managing Director of the company,John Awuku Dzuazah in Koforidua during an end of year dinner and award ceremony for staffs in the Eastern Region.He disclosed that the company ,with the help of government has imported 200 new buses to augment its current transport services being provided nationwide but explained that these buses would be used to operate as inter city buses.Mr.Awuku admitted that as part of effort by the company to increase revenue,electronic ticketing system will be introduced this year to prevent the current state in which 40% of its revenue ?are diverted into pockets of some individual conductors.
The Eastern Regional Minister,Helen Adjoa Ntoso hinted that ?government will soon award ?to contract, rehabilitation of many poor roads in the region to fix the current ?problems facing road users in the region.She charged the staffs to be dedicated to their work and contribute significantly to the success of the company as its target to be international company.
Mr. Akoto Otupiri Darko,the Eastern Regional Manager of MMT admitted that poor nature of roads in the region has been a major challenge to the company as huge amount of revenue generated are used for maintenance works on broken down buses .
