Church Organs Ghana Limited, the sole dealer of Holland-made Johannus Organs, in West Africa, has donated a 90,000 Euro Johannus-branded hybrid Digital / Pipe organ to Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast.

Mfantsipim New FlagThe instrument, donated by founders of the company, Mr. Kofi Esson and Mr. James Ato Scott-Bennin, both old students of the school, replaces the school?s pipe organ which has not been functional for some decades now.

A pipe organ is a musical instrument commonly used in churches or cathedrals that produce sound by driving pressurized air through pipes selected via keyboard and by continuously supplying wind to the organ, notes are sustained for as long as corresponding keys are depressed. With the ?Monarke Sonarte? hybrid Digital/Pipe organ, the traditional pipe system works in sync with modern digital console, enabling it to distribute sound through amplifiers and speakers.

The company also re-wired the school?s assembly hall and engaged a team of Johannus Specialists from Holland to complete the installation and tuning of the instrument.

Through the gesture, Church Organs Ghana Limited seeks to re-introduce the instrument to Ghanaian Churches and Musical institutions due to the unique sound it produced as compared to ordinary organs and pianos.

In an interview with Mr. Esson, on the sidelines of the school?s 139th Founders? Day celebration on Friday, during which the organ was officially handed over, he said the gesture was their contribution to further promote all round education at Mfantsipim and to serve the family, church and the nation.

He said the school itself was their motivation, adding that, the old organ had a sentimental and emotional remembrance for the Mfantsipim Community and that ?Mfantsipim remains an institution of motivation and sacrifice for all of us. We therefore had no reservations coming forward when the call came for the school?s old organ to be replaced.?

The 139th Founders? Day was on the theme ?Celebrating the Life and Legacies of Rev. A. R. P Bartrop?.

Rev. Bartrop, a founding father of the school, worked tirelessly to ensure that the Mfantsipim School survived its fledgling period and whose death led to the adoption of Methodist Hymn numbered 832, ?For All The Saints? as the school Anthem.

Speaking on the theme for the celebration, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhen of Essikado Traditional Area, British Sekondi, in the Western Region, who is an old student of the school (MOBA 1969), paid glowing tributes to Rev. Bartrop.

He quoted Rev. W.T Balmer, Headmaster of the school from 1907 to 1910, as saying ?If Mfantsipim can claim a martyr, it should be Rev. A. R. P Bartrop, and he certainly deserves a top place on the list of founding fathers of the Mfantsipim of today?.

He described Rev. Bartrop as someone who believed in the ability of Africans and showed it in many ways, one of which was the acceptance of ?Dwen Hwe Kan? an Akan phrase meaning ?Think Ahead? as the motto of the school while many institutions had theirs in Latin.

Nana Nketsia V said through the sweat of such founding fathers, Mfantsipim had become an epitome of excellence and African Identity, saying ?There are Schools and there are schools, Mfantsipim is THE SCHOOL”.

He stressed the need for current and former students, Ghanaians and Africans at large, to pursue their convictions, forge ahead in the spirit of honour and leave a legacy for the next generation, just as Rev Bartrop fought for his conviction of keeping the Mfantsipim dream alive.

?It is not the name or person but your contribution to society? that would be remembered after death, ?fight for your convictions and dreams and leave a legacy?. He stated.

Dr. Kenneth Aikins, Central Regional Chairman of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) from the class of 1974, who presided over the ceremony, reiterated calls to all Ghanaians to leave a legacy for the next generation.

He called on old students to brighten the corner and raise the flag of the school wherever they found themselves and advised current students to study diligently, develop their talents and stay away from cyber-crime popularly called ?Sakawa?.

The Headmaster of the School, Mr. John Simpson expressed gratitude to the MOBA for their contribution to the school and urged the whole Mfantsipim community to be united more than ever, forge ahead and chalk more successes for the school.

A moment of silence was observed for the souls of founding fathers and other members of the Mfantsipim Community who were no more.
