Barcelona Fans In Ghana Hail Neymar Capture, Deadly Messi Partnership Envisaged

Barcelona fans in Ghana are hailing the capture of Brazilian superstar Neymar after the Spanish giants splashed almost €54 million to don the ‘Blaugrana’ strip for the next five seasons.

Fans of the Catalans giants in the West African country have been disheartened by the club’s indifferent showing this term following their humiliating exit from the Champions League.

But the mood was uplifted on Sunday when Barcelona and the Brazilian superstar announced that a deal has been reached for the youngster to join the club on a five-year contract from next season.

€30 million will go to Santos, plus €5m in extras – this may include two friendlies in Brazil and Barcelona – and €9m to the agents who negotiated the deal, Andre Curi, Marquinhos Malachi and Wagner Ribeiro.

Not forgetting the €10 million that the Catalan club had already paid the player to secure the signing which has delighted their Ghanaian fans with the potential of him partnering Messi to mesmerize defenders in Europe.

“We are happy with the deal especially when it came just a day after watching Bayern Munich win the Champions League. Barcelona will remain great,” a famous Barca fan in Accra,  Hakeem Swallah told

“Just imagine Neymar playing along side Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. I can wait for next season to start and we will pray against injuries and fatigue.”

Hakeem’s views were echoed by other Ghanaian fans of the Spanish club who think there must be other areas which must be attended to by the club.

“It’s the best news of the season for us. Neymar coming to Barca – I thought it was a dream this morning when my brother told me. It is indeed momentous. But we must look to buy top notch defenders and goalkeepers. Some of the goals we leaked last season were just shocking,” Kwaw Mensah another Barca fan in the Ghanaian capital said.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell’s personal commitment to signing Neymar is indisputable.

The 21-year-old Brazilian star will join the club at his peak. The only real question mark is whether he will fit in well at Barça in general and above all, with Messi. Several people have expressed their doubts already.

The last one to do so, Johan Cruyff, warned that too many cooks spoil the broth. Neymar’s national teammate and friend, Dani Alves, will certainly be a powerful ally for the striker.

Whatever happens, Barça knows it has Neymar and Sandro Rosell has signed his first star. His ace. His gamble. Now it’s a case of waiting to see if all’s well that ends well.
