The late Vice-Chancellor was buried on Thursday

As a mark of respect for their departed former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Sofoluwe, the students of Moshood Abiola University, Lagos (MAULAG) on Thursday suspended protests over the renaming of the institution.

Sofoluwe’s burial was scheduled for Thursday at Ikoyi Vaults and Gardens in Lagos.

The students disclosed that they would continue with the protests on Friday.

They began protesting on Tuesday after President Goodluck Jonathan announced the renaming of the institution in his 2012 Democracy Day speech.

Shortly before GEJ ended his 60-minute speech, MAULAG students poured out into the streets and marched through the University of Lagos Road to Herbert Macaulay Road, and terminated their street protest at a point on Ikorodu Road.

On Wednesday, they marched to the Third Mainland Bridge and blocked the busy highway with intra-city buses belonging to the Lagos State Government.
