A massive demonstration awaits Prez John Mahama?s Government, if he dares re-nominate Hon Peter Kofi Owusu Ashia as Municipal Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira East Constituency of the Central Region.

mahamaInformation reaching this paper indicates that, Mr. Ashia since his assumption as the MCE for the area has not initiated a single project for the area.

According to some elders and executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and per a letter addressed to the president, on 12th April 2013 and signed by ex- Sgt. F. K. Ewuni, it said Mr. Ashia has performed so badly that, he needs not be re-nominated again for the post of M. C. E.

It explained that, the M. C .E has failed to noe his good offices to help the assembly elect a presiding member to steer the affairs of the assembly.

The letter added that, the M. C. E has also failed to give moral or finance support to the N. D. C. parliamentary candidate for the 2012 general elections.

It pointed out that, Mr. Ashia has been administering the municipal assembly in a ?one- man show? manner for the past two years as against the constitution while he is also one person who does not have respect for anybody, young or old-party member or none ? party member.

This, the letter said will attract stiff opposition and demonstration if he Mr. Ashia is nominated again as the M.C.E.

Another letter from Mr. Oteng Asiedu, also a former constituency chairman and now an elder of the party said, the assembly cannot be said to be operating constitutionally because for the past 2 years it has no presiding member.

The letter quoted some provisions of Act 462 as required by sections 17(1), 17(5), 18(1), 11 and 5.

This is suspect that all the lapses that have bedeviled the assembly have a political undertone, because there are speculations that, members are resolute in their political stands not to reach compromise in the decision making.

Another concern, the letter said, is that if the present situation continues to exist, the assembly members may use the same tricks to heckle any government nominee for the position of M.C.E. to get the required votes for confirmation.

The letter therefore wants an investigation to be conducted to find out whether the assembly has really defaulted and if such investigation proves futile, then government can intervene by exercising the power conferred upon it under section 42&43 of the local government Act (ACT 467).

Independent investigation also conducted by this paper revealed that, the assembly has lost GH 12,000.00 through revenue because the assemblies do not have an P.M. to call for meetings to discuss on its accounts.

It also disclosed that, the M.C.E. has shared all the positions of the assembly between his family and friends while Municipal guards have not been paid for the past 8 months and this has compelled most then to stop work.

The worst of it all, the paper gathered is that M.C.E Ashia is dabbling in chieftaincy affairs between the chief of Denkyira Nana Obeng Nyarko III and the paramount chief, Odeefo? Boamponsem who according to sources relates to Mr. Ashia, therefore stalling development at Dunkwaw.

When contacted on him cell-phone, Mr. Ashia simply told this paper to go on with whatever it wants to publish.
