ONE HUNDRED-and forty-one police officers across the country have been promoted by the Police Council, while President Atta Mills approved an honoury promotion for the Deputy Accra Regional Commander, ACP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

By this special promotion, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) effective January 7, 2012.

Even though no reason was given by the accompanying signal, there are suggestions that Mr Yohuno’s promotion is due to his exceptional operational capabilities which have led to the reduction of violent crimes such as armed robbery in the Accra Metropolis.

Notable among the positions DCOP Yohuno has held recently are Sunyani Municipal Police Commander and Accra Central Divisional Commander, where he doubled as the Accra Operations Director.

The Accra Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adufati, was also promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.

In all, 18 Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police with effect from August 2011 and February 2012.

Notable among them are Chief Superintendent Frank Sammy Kwofie, CID Director Operations, Chief Superintendent Michael Kportufe Avadetse, Accra West (Kaneshie) Divisional Commander, C/supt Owusu Donyinah, and C/Supt Efua Ako-Brew.

Fifty-seven Superintendents of Police were promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendents of Police. Some of them are Superintendent Michael Ayivor Viera whose promotion takes effect from July 2011, with the rest taking effect from February 2012. Those taking effect from February 2012 are Lydia Yaako Donkor, Habiba Yaa Akyere Twumasi-Sarpong, Frank Wilfred Anning, Legon District Commander and Cephas Kwofie, Adabraka District Police Commander.

Sixty-five Deputy Superintendents of Police were promoted to the rank of Superintendents of Police. Among them are Cuthbert Mweyang Apengnuo, Director, Narcotics Unit, CID Headquarters, Justice Anthony Aduhene-Benie, Nima District Commander and Shaibu Abubakari-Sadique Osei.

This is the second of a series of promotions that is expected to take place within the Police Service.

The promotion of the 141 cops seems to justify the Vice President’s plea to officers to remain calm as everyone due for promotion would be duly promoted.

At a function recently at the Police Headquarters, Vice President John Dramani Mahama asked senior officers to close their ranks as junior officers would only play on their seemingly divisiveness and undermine them.

He further urged them to stay away from the media as the media was not the arena to discuss security matters, assuring them that government had taken notice of dedicated and hardworking officers who were due for promotions.
