THESE ILLEGAL MINERS HAVE TROUBLED THE MANSO AREA FOR A LONG TIME

About three hundred teenage pregnancies have been reported from Jan. to July this year at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of Ashanti, the District Health Director for the area, Dr. Dominic Dobbin, confirmed at a workshop.

Health Officers confirmed this in a workshop organized by the Minerals Commission and other affiliated bodies under the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry to educate assembly members, unit committee members, chiefs and other stakeholders on the need to combat the galamsey menace in the country.

He attributed this to the influx of the Chinese into the area which has also led to increased rate of HIV/AIDS incident and decreased mortality rate among teenage pregnant girls.

The Chief Inspector of Mines at the Mineral Commission?s Inspectorate Division, Mr. Stephen Piedu, was also present to explain how young women in the area follow the Chinese due to their extravagant lifestyle in the area.

On the issue of pollution,he called on the immigration service to tighten the laws and protect the country from illegal miners because that is the major step the country can take to prevent this hazard in mining areas
