The Oduamse?Krobo Circuit court, presided over by Justice Asamah Akwasi Aseidu, has remanded a Beninios into police custody for allegedly raping a woman at a lorry station.

The plea of Mahamadu Baliks, 32, was not taken and he is expected to reappear in court later.

Chief Inspector Monica Anka, the prosecutor, said the victim is a native of Lolonya, near Ada in the Dangme East District while Baliks hails from Benin.

She said the incident happened on December 27th, 2013 when the victim was returning from Ada to Gemeni.

The Chief Inspector said upon reaching Kpong, the victim realized that it was late for her to continue the journey and she decided to sleep at the Kpong Lorry station.

According to her, whilst sleeping around 2:30 am, Balik pounced on her and forcibly had sex with her.

The victim, the prosecutor said, raised alarm which attracted some people to the scene who accosted the accused person and sent him to the Kpong Police Station.

The victim was issued with a medical form to go to the hospital while Balik was transferred to Domestic Violence Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Akuse.

Inspector Monica confirmed that Balik denied the accusations in his caution statement.

She reiterated that the police were waiting for the victim?s medical report in order to effectively prosecute the case.
