The exhibition of tradition and culture were at its best as people of various regions from across the country were given a rousing welcome when they took the arena to display splendid variety of cultural manifestations.

MERIFEST seeks to promote tourism and cultural activities of various tribal groups residing within the cosmopolitan metropolis.

The TMA also presented a citation to the Tema Mantse to thank him for his support during his 22 years reign.

Speaking at the festival, Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, reiterated the need for Ghanaians to continue to live in peace in an effort to developing the nation.

He said the nation?s progress could only be guaranteed if the people co-existed in peace and unity, commending the MCE and the TMA for initiating the festival.

Mr Afotey-Agbo advised Ghanaians to show love to one another in spite of their ethnic, political or religious affiliations.

According to him, ?We are one people, therefore, residents must contribute to the development of the areas they reside just as they would do in their native communities.?

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone-Katamanso also urged the people of Tema to continue to live in peace and unity so that collectively, they could initiate projects that would help accelerate the development of the area.

For his part, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Mayor of Tema, explained that the celebration was to help promote and sustain culture in Tema and also foster unity among the various ethnic communities in the metropolis.

According to him, TMA has identified various tourist attraction sites in Tema which would be developed for their full benefit.

Also, the Paramount Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku II, pledged the support of the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) for the sustainability of the MERIFEST.

He stressed on the need for the people to do away with divisive tendencies and rally solidly behind the TTC in its bid to develop the town.

Nii Adjei Kraku urged young children to imbibe the cultural activities in their day-to-day lives to identify them as true indigenes, calling for support to promote and sustain Ghana?s indigenous and artistic industry for development.
