Members of Parliament have welcomed the decision by President Mahama to sack deputy communications minister, Victoria Hammah from his government.

Ms Hammah was allegedly heard on a tape saying she would patiently stay in politics so she can make $1M. She also alleged that a minister played a role in the election petition which saw President John Mahama maintained as validly elected president.

The failed parliamentary candidate in the 2012 election was also heard on the tape calling a colleague deputy minister ?senseless, ugly, loud and egoistic?.

After the alleged secret recording went viral, the Minister of Information issued a statement on Friday that ?His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has relieved Ms. Victoria Hammah, Deputy Minister of Communications of her post as Deputy Minister.?

No reason was assigned by the government. The former deputy minister has not yet commented on the tape or her sacking.

Meanwhile, some MPs have been expressing their views about the tape and the deputy minster?s dismissal.

One of them, Asokwa MP Patricia Agyei says the appointments committee of parliament should now be careful in who they approve to hold public office.

She said women participation in governance is something majority will promote, but she ?condemned? her reckless language. In her view the minister should have been a little circumspect in her choice of words.

However, she said, ?what I found very unfortunate is how the message was recorded and who recorded the message?.

On his part, the MP for Takoradi, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, said, ?I am happy the President has seen wisdom in that by firing her. It?s a good decision that the President has made, that is what we expect the President to be doing.?

But the MP for Sunyani East, Kwasi Ameyaw-Kyeremeh thinks there is more to the dismissal. According to him, the minister was sacked because what she said is true and has exposed the government.

He therefore wants President Mahama to answer to some of the issues raised in the tape especially the claim that a minister played a role in the landmark election petition which led to the dismissal of the petitioners? case.

?As for me I will not blame the one who did the recording,? he maintained.
