Gerald Anthony Freduah-Agyemang (Big Ben), the President of Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs Old Players Association and Abakomahene of Jenjemirejah in the Brong Ahafo Region has described the late Mr. Michael Plas Otwe as a great mentor.
Popularly called Coach, Otwe?s distinguished career of service to education spans 33 years (1957-1990). He is a former teacher, housemaster and assistant headmaster at St. Augustine?s College, Cape-Coast (1969-1983), where he doubled as the college football coach. His last post held was, Principal of St. Joseph?s Training College, Bechem (1984-1990).
Otwe who was educated at the University of Science & Technology: 1955-1956 (Teacher Training) and University of Cape Coast: 1965-1969 (Academic Work) was laid to rest at Abura in Cape-Coast on Saturday March 28th 2015.
He coached Cape-Coast Mysterious Dwarfs in the sixties and seventies, and is fondly remembered for spearheading the 5-0 victory over Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Cape-Coast (Robert Mensah) Stadium in 1969. Among his achievements, Otwe led Dwarfs to defeat Kotoko in the Prime Minister?s Cup in the same year.
Freduah-Agyemang who entered Augusco in September, 1961 and completed upper six in 1968 as the St. Stephen?s house prefect in an interview with Daily Graphic said: ?Otwe challenged the system, gave it his own identity and won. He made college sports more fun, more appealing and more rewarding thus bringing out the best in you. Indeed he was sports personified?.
“I wish to acknowledge the impact of his mentoring, discipline and motivation to our lives. Mr. Otwe was a great Teacher, Mentor, Inspirer and above all a Father to thousands of students and sportsmen who had the privilege of encountering him during his years at Augusco”.
