Three people have died in Italy in the past 24 hours due to adverse weather conditions, according to the Ansa news agency Wednesday.

LandslidesTwo sisters in their 60s died in Tuscany, near Grosseto, late on Tuesday as their car was overwhelmed by floods. A third female victim was found Wednesday in the north-east of the country, near Trieste, in a house hit by a landslide.

The deaths came in the wake of deadly floods in the north-western port city of Genoa, where one person died early on Friday. Floods have also caused damage in Parma and Alessandria, two other northern cities.

Italy is often hit by natural disasters. In November 2012, floods in the Grosseto area killed five people. Experts say widespread breaches of building regulations and scarce investment in nature conservation aggravate the problem.
