Kotoko in comfort zone as Hearts and Ashgold fail to win

The 22nd league title for Asante Kotoko seems certain after the match day 25 round of games in the Glo Premier League.

Both Hearts of Oak and Obuasi Ashanti Gold, who were on the heels of the league leaders failed to grab the three vital points in their home games to allow Kotoko to sit comfortably on the summit of the Glo Premier League.

Hearts of Oak were held to a 0-0 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium as a more determined Ebusua Dwarfs prevented the phobians from getting on the score sheet. Though playing with more determination after losing 1-2 to rivals Asante Kotoko a week ago, Hearts of Oak could not find the back of the net against their opponents.

Indeed goalkeeper Sammy Adjei’s brilliance in post for the phobians prevented Hearts from losing a game they were more than determined to win.

After failing to make a claim for the league title, Hearts have their eyes fixed on the second spot but rivals to that position Ashanti Gold’s failure to win couldn’t be a good omen  for Hearts to claim victory.

The “aboakese” lads were similarly held to a one all draw at home against Medeama SC.  Ashanti Gold took the lead through Aaron Amoah earlier in their game but the equalizer came in the dying embers of the first half through impressive Richard Mpong.

Indeed Ashanti Gold’s run of seven consecutive wins in the second round seems a distant story now that they have taken only three points from a possible nine in three successive games.

Asante Kotoko had earlier on Saturday beaten Mighty Jets by two goals to nil.

In other games, Tema Youth beat Berekum Chelsea by three goals to one while Heart of Lions lost yet again at home against 2009/2010 league champions, Aduana Stars.

Isaac Amoah got a brace while Daniel Appiah got the other for the Tema based club on their way to victory while Joseph Ato Bissah got what ended as a consolation goal for Ghana’s Africa representatives, Berekum Chelsea.
