Korle-Bu ICU Affected By Huge Bills Owed By Patients

Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has revealed that the operations of its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has been affected by bills owed by patients who have used the facility and that the?outstanding bills owed the Hospital by patients who have used the facility is in excess of half a million Ghana Cedis.

wpid-Korle-Bu-Teaching-Hospital.jpgIn a press release issued by its Pubic Relations Unit, it indicated that “As a service that is critical to the survival of very sick patients, it is imperative to keep the ICU running and that explains Management’s decision to explore a number of solutions to address the problems affecting the operation of the ICU.”

It said, one of the immediate solutions is to launch a fund to be known as the Critical Care Fund (CCF) where corporate bodies and philanthropic individuals can donate to support the provision of care to patients in the ICU.

Other options, it noted, include the introduction of a levy on users of our facilities, which would go to support care provision to ICU patients. “This will require the Hospital to seek approval from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Parliament and due process will be followed. It is the hope of the Hospital that all well-meaning Ghanaians will donate generously into the Critical Care Fund, when it is launched.”
